Two-dozen sporting clubs across WA have been awarded funding from the State Government, through Healthway’s summer healthy sporting club program, to increase healthy options at their clubs.

Nickol Soccer Club, Tom Price Tennis Club and Onslow Park Tennis Club were among the clubs to receive up to $4000 in funding to help build healthy club environments and improve knowledge and awareness of healthy eating and drinking.

Health Minister Roger Cook said the grants would help clubs make the small changes needed to create healthier lifestyles.

“Sports clubs not only provide physical, mental and social benefits but are ideally placed to promote healthy food and drink,” he said.

The clubs will now work with Healthway and the Western Australian School Canteen Association to increase healthy options at club-run canteens and kiosks.
