Education brought to the bush

Students in Tom Price are set to benefit from two exciting on-country programs aimed at delivering education in a fun, supportive environment.

The programs will run in Term 2 at Tom Price Primary School, North Tom Price Primary School and Tom Price Senior High School, following the success of a pilot program in 2016.

The Ranger 4 Life and Lifeskills 2 Leadership programs are delivered through ABC Foundation and supported through a Pilbara Cities Education Partnership.

ABC chief adviser Brad Rowe said it brought education to the bush.

“Whilst the Ranger 4 Life program focuses on children from three to 12, the older children are now teaching the younger people — we’re just providing the platform to do it,” he said.

“The main objective of the program is to keep children at school. Our immersive learning approach is an alternative way of learning that includes a bush classroom.”

Mr Rowe said the children’s response to the “language of country” had been overwhelming.

“The language is endorsed by the elders. The elders are always in attendance and come in to assist with the language delivery,” he said.
