Child activity programs keep funding

Two of the State Government’s popular sporting and recreation programs will continue to be funded after $5 million was allocated to them in the State Budget.

Nationals Member for Mining and Pastoral Jacqui Boydell said the KidSport program and Nature Play WA helped thousands of children keep active.

“Nature Play WA celebrates children playing outside in nature and reminding us how good it feels to do something as simple as climb a tree,” she said.

To date, Nature Play WA has distributed more than 201,211 of its activity passports, which are filled with nature-based missions for children to complete.

The award-winning KidSport program helps eligible children aged five to 18 join a local sport and recreation club by offering a voucher of up to $200 a year for fees.

Some 286 children in the Pilbara have become KidSport members since the inception of the program in September 2011.
