You don’t mess with Tootsie’s town

Stomping Ground

Yindjibarndi elder, local fashionista and all-round queen Tootsie Daniels’ passion for her home is clear for all to see, so when someone talks ill of Roebourne and she catches onto it, you know you are going to hear about it.

After a comment last week describing Roebourne as a “stink hole” — a reference to the recent sinkhole which opened up on the main road — Ms Daniels unloaded both barrels in a passionate defence of her community.

“Roebourne is not a stink hole, it’s a beautiful place,” she said. “To the locals it is our home sweet home. What a disgraceful comment on our deadly stomping ground.”

If every town had its own Tootsie Daniels, the world would be a better place.

Balls ‘n’ all

Some may say getting in a ring with a bull is far from wise. Some may also say getting inside a giant ball you have no control of is not the best idea either.

But, as we learnt back in maths class, two negatives make a positive. So of course a brave clown and another bloke got inside a bubble ball inside the Onslow Rodeo ring with a bull, because this is the Pilbara and that is just what happens here. The stunt was to raise money for a few organisations, and it paid off, with thousands of dollars raised on the day.
