Wolves defeat Kats in wet and wild clashes
The footy was wet and wild on Friday night at Wickham Oval with the winter rain making for two very scrappy games of football between the Kats and Wolves.
The rain had stopped by the time League took to the field, but the ball was slippery and players were sliding all over the place.
Ultimately, it was a competition of who could keep hold of the ball and in the first quarter, that was the Kats.
They trapped the ball in their forward 50 for most of the first term and kicked 4.3 to be up by 15-points at quarter-time.
Wolves locked on to the ball in the second quarter and kicked 2.6 compared with 1.4 from the Kats, to be down by just seven points at the major change.
The Kats regained control in the third term with a four-goal quarter, boosting their lead to 12 points at the last break.
The tables turned again in the last quarter with the Wolves able to keep a firm hand on the ball and dominating the term.
They kicked 4.5 while the Kats managed just 1.1, meaning a 22-point final-quarter turnaround and a win for the still undefeated home side.
The final score was Wickham 11.12 (78) to Karratha 10.8 (68).
The conditions were even less favourable in the reserves, with the rain coming down heavy throughout the match, making for a low-scoring game.
The Kats started out stronger but struggled in front of goal in the first term, kicking 1.5 while the Wolves managed just a single point.
That quickly changed in the second quarter, with the Wolves switching on and kicking 2.2, compared with just the one point from the Kats.
The match continued on in a similar fashion with the Wolves ultimately emerging victorious by 21 points.
The final score was Wickham 7.6 (48) to Karratha 3.9 (27).
