Windy conditions challenged the 41 players in Saturday’s Stableford Competition at the Karratha Golf Club, sponsored by Monica Plane and Wayne Martyn.

The constant changes in direction kept the big hitters guessing, but the winner was not phased, hitting down the middle of the fairway all day and sinking all his putts.

Shooting seven under his handicap, with 76 off the stick, Wayne Haenga took out the win by a country mile, with 43 Stableford points.

Placing second with 39 points, new member Leah Vogler is back in form. Third place went to Rod Lee who also clocked up four novelties for the day.

Husband and wife Alf and June Worsley won the Best Vets with their scores of 35 points each and Best Gross with 74 off the bat was Dave Turner.

Sunday scroungers round one of the Race to Christmas saw another big win, with Martyn scoring 26 Stableford points for the nine-hole comp.

Shooting eight under, he was also docked eight shots off his Sunday handicap.

Hopefully winning the kitty and taking home the meat raffle hamper won by partner Monica Plane in the chip off eased the pain.
