Basketball in Karratha returned with a bang as the NSBC Warriors defeated Flames Black in the opening round at the Karratha Leisureplex.

The Warriors and Flames Black tussled for the lead throughout the round one game on October 14.

However, Warriors proved too strong, downing Flames Black by six points 31-25.

Stirling Cagilaba was the standout player with 11 points, while his teammates Joel Lekias and Aaron Chambers chipped in with eight and seven points, respectively.

Meanwhile, Trouts defeated Pardoo Katz by eight points 38-30 with Corey Craig scoring nine for Trouts. Khobie Dunn was the star for the Katz with 11.

Mayuga Majik defeated newcomers Karratha Kats by 15 points 45-30 in the widest winning margin of a close opening round.

In the final division one men’s game Flames Grey defeated Roebourne Magpies 39-32.

In the women’s division one competition, Flames Black defeated Cyclones 26-23.

Flames had six individual scorers for the game including Mia Grantham (9) and Janique Kautsky (8).

Jordi Perry was the top scorer for Cyclones with seven points.

The final division one game had Trouts down NSBC Lynx 28-17.

Jordi Perry was the standout for Trouts with 12 points to score nearly half of her team’s total.

Morgan Mair scored eight for Lynx.

Round two will kick off from the KLP on Thursday.
