Two-for-one to boost pubs

A Karratha tavern is among the many venues countrywide taking part in an initiative involving the donation of 200,000 pints of beer from one of Australia’s leading breweries.

Tambrey Tavern has joined forces with Carlton and United Breweries’ For The Love Of Your Local campaign, in which customers buy a pint of beer online and receive a two-for-one voucher to use when the venue reopens.

The campaign aims to inject cash into struggling pubs, which have had to close as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with CUB donating one pint for every one purchased online.

Tambrey Tavern manager Damien Bowden said the initiative brought good exposure to the venue.

“There are a lot of locals that are looking forward to coming down and seeing us once we are open, so it’s a good opportunity for them to pre-buy a beer, then come down and have that beer once we open,” he said.

“The support from the breweries over this time has been great.

“For The Love Of Your Local helps keep us relevant and it’s a good way for us to advertise so people are aware of what we are doing and know that we are reopening.”

Australian Hotels Association WA chief executive Bradley Woods said the immediate cash injection would help thousands of venues pay mounting bills.

“Pubs and clubs are the heart of many Australian communities. Through For the Love of Your Local, patrons are supporting their favourite local now for when they reopen. That speaks volumes about the appreciation patrons have for their local,” he said.
