Trouts Blue mount stunning comeback to snatch victory from the Northern Spirit Suns

Basketball returned with a bang when Trouts Blue mounted a stunning comeback in the dying seconds of the game to snatch victory from the Northern Spirit Suns in the latest round of the Karratha Basketball Association. Northern Spirit Suns took the lead early in their round 16 clash at Karratha Leisureplex last Thursday leading 10-1 in the first five minutes. The Trouts began to rally late in the first half, cutting the deficit to just six points at half-time to trail by six points, 13-7. A back-and-forth beginning to the second half led to both teams tied at 18 with eight minutes to go before the Suns took back the lead. Trailing by a point with less than a minute to go, Trouts’ Jarvis Hurley scored a two-pointer as the timer hit 23 seconds to seal the win. The final score was Trouts with 26 over Northern Spirit Suns’ 24. Hurley was Trouts’ top scorer with 12 points, while Jerome Ieremia starred for the Suns with 12 as well. In the other games, table-toppers Outlaws held off Trouts White, 44-41, and Cyclone Development downed Northern Spirit Bala Boys, 36-32. Flames Grey kicked off the Friday night games with a dominant victory over Flames Black, 41-31, while Mayuga Majik came beat Pardoo Katz 46-41. In division two, Vipers crushed Flames 2 Black, 44-22, Roebourne Titans towered over Thirsty Trouts, 44-32, and Roebourne Villagers crushed Wildcats — men’s D2, 52-33. Division three featured close clashes with Misfits beating Trouts, 22-15, Vipers edging Flames 3 Black, 17-15, and Wildcats — men’s D3 taking down Redbacks, 20-16. In the women’s competition Flames 1 Grey scorched Trouts White by 31 points, 53-22, and Trouts Blue flexed their muscles against Northern Spirit Lynx, 31-23. Cyclone Development came out on top of Goat Trouts in their division two clash, 37-14, and Majick had the magic touch against Flames 2 Black, 22-12. In division three, PM Trotus dominated Wildcats — women’s D3, 39-17, and Flames 3 Orange downed Swish Swish Bish, 31-18. Round 17 is due to be held tomorrow night at the Karratha Leisureplex.
