Triumphant return marks start of season
Softball has returned to the Pilbara for 2017 with a host of new players and the return of a Wickham side to the West Pilbara Softball Organisation.
It was a triumphant return to the league for Wickham, who ran out 15-7 winners against the Geckos.
Both teams played well in their first game, and it was great to see old and new players on both sides.
Peyton Ansey for Wickham starred with a home run in the third innings, while catcher Amber Jaffray and third base Janelle Linto had strong games.
For the Geckos’, top efforts were put in by pitcher Chloe Bowden, first-time catcher Chloe Stopps and Bec Stopps on first base.
A 17-0 scoreline between Orbits and development side Sinners 2 did not reflect the competitive nature of the match.
The Sinners 2 side was full of first-timers who showed plenty of skill. Orbits pitcher Melinda Clarke put in a good first-up performance but the spotlight went to Emily Capito, whose catch and tag out double play at third base proved a highlight for the day.
The last game between Storm and Sinners 1 was the game of the round. Sinners 1 sneaked home over Storm 8-6.
