Touch footy finals have the Crazy Horses riding high after a big win against the Emus

The first round of finals for the Hedland Touch Association started with a bang as the Crazy Horses, who finished fourth on the regular season A-grade ladder, knocked the Emus out of the competition. It was the Crazy Horses from the outset with a convincing 9-2 lead at half-time. Key players in the first term included Tyson Roper, who scored three tries, and Ben Watson with two. In the second half an even spread of dual tries from Travis Hall, Kelima Levi and Nathan Swayne as well as singles from Charm Mahanga, Meika Renata, Tyson Roper and Ben Watson sealed the deal for the Crazy Horses. The Emus again scored only two points in the second half. The game finished with a final score of 19-4, with the Crazy Horses through to the next round. Game two was another blowout in favour of the Rusty Pipes who beat the Bin Chickens 16-5. With only a single try to the Rusty Pipes’ six at the end of the first half, the Bin Chickens were in trouble and the early momentum from the Rusty Pipes stayed with them for the remainder of the game. Bethany Denney was best on ground for the Rusty Pipes and could not be stopped with an impressive five tries scored across the two halves. The last A-grade elimination final was a showdown between the Conquerors and the Slingers. A lower-scoring but closer game than the previous two, the first half was 3-2 the Conquerors’ way. Once again, early momentum proved key and the Conquerors ran away with the game, scoring six tries to the Slingers’ two in the final term for an end score of 9-4. In B-grade, Touchy Touchy toppled the Wu-Tag Clan 7-4 and Quality Coatings defeated the Touch Up’s 9-5. The third match between the Phoenix and the Pengwins was a forfeit. Semifinals are up next with a bumper fixture of games to look forward to at Marie Marland Reserve on December 8. After a week off the Nads, who finished in the top spot on the A-grade ladder, take on the Crazy Horses at 6.45pm and the Conquerors are set to play the Rusty Pipes at 7.45pm. In B-grade, Chafing Dreams take on Touchy Touchy at 6.45pm, and Quality Coatings and the Phoenix will go head to head at 7.45pm.
