The Crabs take out the Kats to claim the West Pilbara Cricket Association T20 crown

A dominant opening partnership and top class bowling guided the Pegs Creek Crabs to a 23 run victory against the Karratha Kats to claim the West Pilbara Cricket Association T20 crown. Batting first at the Karratha Leisureplex on March 26, Pegs’ openers Lachlan Seabrook (98) and Jordan Perkusich (59) took control of the game, blasting 153 runs in nine overs before Perkusich was bowled by Michael James. Tharindu Ilanperuma (3) was next to the crease before being dismissed cheaply which sparked some fightback from Kats bowlers who proceeded to take 8/38 to keep their side in with a chance. After the fast start, Pegs ended their innings on 9/205 with Seabrook and Perkusich the top scorers for their side while Shane Edwards bagged four wickets for the Kats. The Kats run chase got off to a rough start when opener Jake Back was dismissed for a two ball duck. Edwards (57) came to the crease and got the run chase going, partnering with opener Geoff Spence for 39 runs before Spence was bowled by Joshua Vernom. Edwards continued to blast runs for the Kats, and found support from Michael James (37) and Cameron Nowotny (32) but in the end the batting side finished on 5/182. Smith was the star bowler for the Crabs, taking two wickets while his teammates Aaron Faneco and Vernon took one wicket each. In the end the Kats were unable to chase down the total, with Pegs Creek claiming the championship with a 23 run victory. Seabrooks’ 98 run blitz saw him adjourned player of the match. It marked the perfect end to a dream season for Pegs Creek who also claimed the 40 over crown in December. Seabrook also took home four awards from the WPCA men’s 2021/22 season including men’s overall champion. He also won best batting aggregate and average as well as the best bowling aggregate. Other award winners included the Dampier Taverners Daniel Harding who was the men’s T20 champion cricketer and Muhammad Uzair who was deemed the men’s 40 over champion cricketer.
