Temporary closure of Fortescue River Roadhouse

Fortescue River Roadhouse will close on September 22 following the expiry of current lease arrangements. Operator Better Choice Fuel has confirmed it will not renew the lease it has held with Pastoral Management Pty Ltd since 2014. The roadhouse services Pilbara locals and tourists on North West Coastal Highway south of Mardie, between Karratha and Nanutarra. PMPL is in the early stages of market engagement for a potential new operator. The final outcome will be communicated to community stakeholders when determined. In the meantime, fuel and food services will not be available after September 22 and travellers are advised to make other arrangements. For the convenience of the public, toilet facilities will remain open and be cleaned daily. “It’s unfortunate that the operator has decided not to renew the lease,” CITIC Pacific Mining head of corporate affairs Rob Newton said. “We very much understand the importance of the roadhouse for travellers and are actively looking for another operator, so that services can be restored. “We’ll keep the community informed of progress. “In the meantime, travellers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.” For those travelling from Karratha, the closest roadhouse is Nanutarra Roadhouse, open 6am to 10pm.
