A 15-year-old faced Karratha Children’s Court last week on a string of charges including two counts of trespassing and one count of aggravated home burglary. The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested on Thursday after fleeing from police. This resulted in a six-hour manhunt where multiple police resources were deployed, including traffic detectives, forensics and the police drone. The teenager is also facing one count of common assault, providing false details, assaulting a public officer and attempting to steal a vehicle. He is yet to enter a plea. The multiple burglaries last week in Pegs Creek and Baynton resulted in Karratha police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Danial Strachan reminding people to lock up. “We always hear that you shouldn’t have to and I get it, I get that it’s your house but in this day and age, even if you’re home, just lock up,” he said. “Really happy with members of the public, they kept reporting suspicious behaviour so it was a fantastic effort to get the (alleged) offender and his bail was refused.” The teenager will next appear in Carnarvon Children’s Court on October 1.
