Teach For Australia hosts community connect event for Pilbara locals considering a career in teaching

Teach For Australia held a Community Connect Event in Karratha on Saturday, August 26 to bring together past and present Teach for Australia alumni and supporters of the charity whose goal is to break the cycle of educational inequity in Australia. Teach For Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that develops teachers for classrooms in most need of staff with the skills to make them the best teachers they can be. Founded in 2010, Teach for Australia partners with Federal and State education departments and organisations nationally, and has worked in West Australian schools since 2015, and Pilbara schools since 2018. Aspiring teachers in the Karratha were invited to join the public information session on Saturday afternoon at Pilbara University Centre to learn more about Teach For Australia’s pathway to employment-based teaching. Teach For Australia brings in new teachers through a two-year, earn-and-learn masters of teaching program in which the participants work in schools where needs are greatest while completing their studies. WA State Manager Jane Mulder said that Teach For Australia was currently working with three partner schools in the Pilbara, and have placed 26 teachers in this vast region in the past six years. “We are so pleased to be continuing to build strong partnerships with schools and supporters throughout the Pilbara region,” she said. “This event is a celebration of what we have achieved together so far and the many opportunities ahead. We are especially grateful for an important partnership with Woodside which has directly enabled our work with Pilbara schools.”
