Super clinic’s use of colourearns prestigious award

Karratha’s GP Super Clinic has received commendation at the 2017 Dulux Colour Awards.

At the national awards, held at the Melbourne Museum on Wednesday, May 10, the Karratha clinic was awarded in the commercial interior — public spaces category.

Winners were selected from almost 300 entries from across the country by a judging panel of design experts.

In their comments, the judging panel said the super clinic exerted a civic quality and created a much-needed sense of permanence.

Judges said the colours used in the clinic established a connection to the surrounding natural environment and created an atmosphere of warmth and safety.

“This is a beautiful submission with specific commendation to the attention to duo-toning,” they said.

“It’s no wonder the indigenous people call this their ‘rainbow home’.”

The super clinic has a colour scheme made up of blues, earthy greens, greys and warm yellows, with hints of turquoise selected by architecture firm CODA Studio.

Dulux colour planning and communication manager Andrea Lucena-Orr said this year’s finalists presented works that delivered an entirely unrestrained skew on colour use and were in line with the theme for 2017, Bold, Forward, Tilted.

“The Dulux Colour Awards looks to uncover the most inventive use of colour in built environments across Australia, New Zealand and beyond,” she said.

“Each year we look for the submissions that take creativity to new heights and this year’s award-winners broke free of all tradition to deliver concepts that truly represent the future of colour and design.”

The super clinic was one of two WA projects to be recognised at the awards.

Byford Secondary College by Donaldson and Warn received commendation in the commercial exterior category.
