Storm wins West Pilbara Softball Organisation championship after beating Dampier Falcons

Storm have won the West Pilbara Softball Organisation championship with a come-from-behind one-run grand final victory against the Dampier Falcons. In the grand final Falcons got off to a fast start with Emma Jane Nel hitting a two-run runs-batted-in in the top of the first inning at Bulgarra Oval. Falcons batters stayed hot in the second innings, scoring three runs to Storm’s one to hold a five-run lead going into the middle inning. Storm turned the game on its head in the fifth inning. In a two-run base play Storm cut the deficit before adding two more runs in the inning to trail by just four runs with two innings left. Storm scored two more runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to two runs with one inning to go. Falcons were unable to add to their lead in the top of the seventh before Storm batters remained hot to score the three runs needed to steal the win and the championship. Storm claimed victory 9-8. WPSO fairest and best for the season was awarded to both Sinners’ Becky Macneal and Storms’ Joanne Leo. Leo said it took a whole team effort to win the final. “Its been five years since we won the last one and we had the whole team behind us,” she said.
