Stellar weather produces sensational fishing in Exmouth
The July weather was the best in living memory, according to many locals, visitors and business owners.
In fact, the word around town is that this had been the best July on record for tourists, weather, fishing, businesses and generally happy people.
The fishing has been sensational with many reports of good reef species by those targeting a sweet feed.
Speaking of sweet, the crabs in the gulf have also been on the hop and plenty of fresh crab lunches have been enjoyed.
Mackerel have been working the shallower reefs off Helby Bank but the sharks have been rather pesky. Try and be as quick as possible and not have your gear to far out the stern when trolling for these species to lessen the take from sharks.
Strada lures have been the pick along with the old faithful white/redhead Halco Laser Pro in the 2m depth.
Sailfish have been on the back of the reef but keep look out for the many whales.
In Broome this year they had record numbers of sailfish, with very little interaction from sharks.
Some sailfish from here get tagged and venture up that way and vice versa, so we are expecting a great sailfish season in the gulf here in September to November.
Don’t forget the Ladies Day competition is on this weekend for the Exmouth Game Fishing Club. Further details at egfc.com.au.
