South African author and activist Sisonke Msimang share her story with Roebourne residents at Ngurin Centre

South African author and activist Sisonke Msimang will share her story with Roebourne residents when she visits the Pilbara next month. The 2021 Western Australian Premier’s Book Award winning storyteller will visit Roebourne for a series of story-training sessions on November 2-3. Held at the Ngurin Centre, Ms Msimang will share her own story with participants and provide training for those who want to practice sharing theirs. Ms Msimang is the daughter of a freedom fighter who campaigned alongside Nelson Mandela, Ms Msimang is the author of Always Another Country: A Memoir of Exile and Home and The Resurrection of Winnie Mandela. “Through a series of exercises, you’ll learn about the different elements of a story, how to structure your own experiences to make meaning out of them, and how to determine if a story is ready to be told,” Ms Msimang said. “The workshops are designed to boost confidence, help participants communicate their own narratives, and create more interesting or personal presentations.” The talks are part of an initiative of the Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi Foundation.
