Soul and funk artist Jay Jarome to hit up Roebourne when Songs For Peace return this month

Tasmanian young Indigenous soul and funk artist Jay Jarome will make his first trip to the Pilbara when Songs for Peace return to Roebourne this month. Born and raised on Bribie Island in south-east Queensland, Jarome moved to Hobart to study at the University of Tasmania’s Conservatorium of Music. Jarome said he was excited to meet the Roebourne community. “I’m really excited to share music with everyone and to be able to be part of this beautiful movement that’s going on,” he said. “I’m also super excited to see the Pilbara landscape because it’s going to be a pretty stark contrast from where I am at the moment.” Jarome has been working with Big haRT on the When Water Falls project, an immersive sensory performance aimed to explore people’s relationship with rain. Songs for Peace will be held on September 18 and will include an evening of live music, art installations and dance performances. Now in its fourth year, the event will celebrate joy, peace, living culture and the creative talent of the Roebourne community.
