Songs for Peace concert returns to Roebourne this month

Roebourne will be transformed for an evening of live music, art installations and dance with the return of the Songs for Peace concert this month. Now in its fourth year, Songs for Peace is a multi-arts evening celebrating joy, peace, living culture and the deep creative talent of the Roebourne community. This year’s event, on September 18, will see musicians including Lucky Oceans, Vikki Thorn and Naomi Pigram return to the Pilbara to perform with artists Tyson Mowarin, Dakota Tahi Tahi and Fred Ryan. The evening will also see Tasmanian young Indigenous soul and funk artist Jay Jarome make his first trip to the Pilbara along with the Wangkatjangka Community’s Kankawa Nagarra. Other highlights of the concert will include the Red Air Project light installation that aims to pay homage to the spirit of the land. The Red Air Project is a collaboration with Goldberg Aberline Studio and Yindjibarndi Artists Sharon and Kaye Warrie, and is supported by Ngarluma Yindjibarndi Foundation Limited. Music and songwriting workshops will also be held at the Roebourne Regional Prison for male and female inmates. The acclaimed Bangarra Dance Theatre’s Rekindling program will be dancing up at a storm for the community, hosting after school workshops for children.
