Shire of Exmouth receives boost to help reduce litter across the North West Cape

The Shire of Exmouth’s aim to reduce litter across the North West Cape has received a boost with the local government receiving a $5000 Keep Australia Beautiful grant . The funds were used to support ongoing projects including the Keep Exmouth Clean day and to hold a litter audit at Town Beach. At last year’s Keep Exmouth Clean day 26 cubic metres of litter were collected within five hours, while this year’s event was cancelled because of flooding. At the Town Beach litter audit eight Shire staff collected 1.75kg of litter over a one kilometre stretch at Town Beach. Shire of Exmouth president Matt Niikkula said the KABC grants were an opportunity to support community projects to reduce litter and change littering behaviour in Exmouth. Littering is often a mindless act, Cr Niikkula said.
