Sharks give Swans big scare

South Hedland Swans kept up their red-hot form by fending off a brave Dampier Sharks in a surprisingly close contest at Windy Ridge Oval last Saturday night.

Heading into the round, the Sharks were yet to have a win this season while Swans had only lost one game.

The Swans were off to a flying start, kicking the first goal of the high-energy game.

During the first quarter, the Swans had several opportunities at goal and were in front by nine points at quarter-time.

In the second term, Sharks scored an after-siren goal, leaving them trailing by just two points at half-time.

It was a close contest and heading into the second half it was shaping up to be anyone’s game.

The Sharks came out firing in the third quarter and scored the first goal of the second half, finally giving them the lead.

But it was not long before Swans answered with a goal and were back in front.

While the Sharks put up a strong fight, the Swans ultimately came away with the win. The final score was 12.10 (82)to 9.3 (57).

Shaun Derschow was the game’s leading goal kicker and a stand-out for the Sharks, kicking three goals.

For the Swans, Joshua Glasson, Nelson Ansey, Kevin Geary, Malcolm Anderson and Adam Dejagweem each kicked two goals.
