Two Karratha businesses are teaming up to revamp the town’s long-running FeNaClNG Festival with a new look and a fresh line-up of entertainment. Onyx Events and Wrapped Creations have been announced as the successful applicants to oversee the management in 2021 after a City of Karratha tender. Onyx owner Sean Throssell said this year’s entertainment would be a different take on previous years, while still focusing on local content. “2021 will see some changes to the entertainment with a focus more towards mainstream live music, local content with a country music segment from Roebourne headlined by the Blackstone Ramblers,” he said. “We have also engaged Darren Reid and the Soul City Groove and a great tribute show featuring ABBA, Robbie Williams and David Bowie” “We are also having an FMX X-treme motocross stunt show that will perform over both days of the festival, and of course the finale will have a fantastic fireworks to finish off the festival. “We are also looking at a new-look family-friendly licensed area with marquee shade and seating. “The changes will be subtle but noticeable and will add a new look to the festival.” Mr Throssell said he felt excited and privileged to deliver the new-look event. “We are working with Wrapped Creations, who will provide a new online stall booking system for stallholders as well as an informative website,” Mr Throssell said. “It’s a great festival and from my talk with long-term operators, the likes of Jenny Pell from Show West regard FeNaClNG as the best show outside of Perth.” The new-look event comes as the Karratha Dampier Lions Club, which had hosted the festival since its inception in Dampier in July, 1972, announced last March it would no longer run the festival “due to circumstances beyond our control”. The City of Karratha consulted with community groups last year, including the Karratha Community Association, about taking on the festival, but ,none was in a position to do so this year. The festival is set to run over the FeNaClNG long weekend this year, from July 31-August 1.
