The environmental impact on the Pilbara’s sea and waterways was the focus of a learning program held at schools across Karratha.

The Pilbara Teacher Support Program, organised by Scitech, used the theme of “Dive into the big blue” as its basis for learning in term three, with 22 teachers taking part.

Launched in 2013 in partnership with Chevron, the initiative provides mentoring, professional development and networking opportunities in the region with aims to upskill teachers.

The program’s term-four focus would be a maths murder-mystery event designed to develop students’ mathematics, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Scitech chief executive Kalien Selby said the approach to learning had a positive response from students.

“Scitech’s professional learning programs bring the real world into the classroom,” she said.
