People in Roebourne and Cossack could be without power throughout the day after power lines were brought down by a truck early this morning.

The power outage occurred after a truck carrying a high load reportedly hit power lines on the Point Samson-Roebourne Road, near the turn-off to Roebourne, about 7.30am.

No one was injured in the incident, and a small grass fire started in the area by an electrical fault was quickly extinguished.

The site has been cordoned off and emergency services and traffic management crews are at the scene.

The resulting power outage has affected more than 500 people in Roebourne and Cossack.

Horizon Power retail and community manager Michelle South said the company was working hard to fix the damage and restore power.

“The damage to the lines is substantial and a section of affected line will need to be rebuilt,” she said.

“Unfortunately, this means it may take up to 12 hours to restore the supply of electricity to the Roebourne and Cossack communities.”

“We apologise for the inconvenience but customers can be assured that our crews will be working as quickly and safely as possible to rectify the situation.”

Power is expected to be restored by 7pm, about 12 hours after the initial incident.
