Pilbara Sports Academy receives funding boost to develop young athletes

A sports training program in the Pilbara has been given a $60,000 boost to help develop young athletes in the region. The Pilbara Sports Academy was launched in 2019 to help give young athletes a head start in their sporting careers. It is being run by V Swans and funded by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. The State Government announced last week the academy received the funds through the Regional Athlete Support Program. Sport and Recreation Minister Tony Buti said grants had been distributed to nine regional talent development network academies, programs and networks. “Through funding programs such as this, we are giving regional athletes, coaches and officials access to top-quality training and development,” he said.
