Pegs Creek Crabs continued their unbeaten run with a 66-run victory over Karratha Kats in round three of the West Pilbara Cricket Association women’s 20 over competition. Crabs batted first at Baynton West Oval, stumbling early when openers Cerys English and Jessica Jones were both dismissed cheaply leaving the league’s top side struggling at 2-4. Jessica Creighton took to the crease and sparked the fightback with a determined 52 runs off 51 deliveries and had support from Kassie Patterson who blasted 39 runs with four 4s. Crabs finished their innings on 6-173. Amanda Morley and Charlotte Morley were the pick of the bowlers for Karratha with two wickets each. A firey spell from Crabs’ Ashleigh Faneco ripped open the Kats batting line when she removed both openers to leave the chasing side at 2-8. Kats struggled to get back into the contest with regular wickets falling and the run rate faltering. In the end Kats finished on 7-71, giving Pegs Creek a 66-run victory. Peta Frost and Morley were the top scorers for the Karratha Kats with 11 runs. In the other game Karratha Falcons held off Dampier Taverners in a nailbiting finish. Falcons batters struggled at Bulgarra Oval with Taverners’ Ash Knox running rampant with a five wicket haul to leave the batting side on 8-65 after 20 overs.
