Pegs Creek Crabs demolish Kats to advance to the West Pilbara Cricket grand final

The Pegs Creek Crabs crushed the Karratha Kats on March 9 to reach the final of the West Pilbara Cricket Association women’s T20 competition. The Crabs started nervously before opener Bronwyn Thomson seized control blasting 61 from 41 balls including eight fours to help guide the Crabs to 6-147. Jessica Pitchers and Ashleigh Faneco made 23 and 15 respectively. Jenny Glew and Katie Williams each took two wickets for the Kats. The Kats struggled in reply, with both openers unable to get away from the attacking bowling by the Crabs. It did not take long for the Crabs to take control with bowlers Cerys English and Faneco dismissing both openers to leave the chasing side reeling at 2-27. Quick wickets followed, with the Kats unable to mount a significant partnership or score freely. They eventually stumbled to 6-67 from their 20 overs. Faneco took two wickets while Pitchers, Jessica Creighton and English each took one. In the other semifinal, the Rec Club stormed to victory over Baynton Lions. Batters Emily Bowden (55) and Lillian Balinski (24 not out) pushed their side to a good score of 2-115. Sharp bowling and fielding by the Rec Club ripped out the Lions top order with the chasing side’s chances fading when opener Ash Knox hit her own wicket facing a brute of a delivery by Alexa Naprasnik. Lions limped to 6-71 with Rec Club winning by 44 runs. Karratha Kats were due to play Rec Club on Tuesday to determine who will advance to the final against the Crabs.
