Pegs Creek 1 was victorious over Dampier Taverners 2 in the second-round West Pilbara Cricket Association’s men’s T20 clash on Saturday night, winning by 104 runs.

The Dampier Taverners won the toss at the Karratha Leisureplex oval sending Pegs Creek in to bat, with openers Lachy Seabrook and Dean Whiteford the difference makers as they smashed 79 and 87 respectively to lift Creek to a 207 run total.

Seabrook’s strong showing included six 6s and six 4s, while Whiteford managed seven 6s and five 4s.

Despite batting for all 20 overs, the Taverners couldn’t come remotely close to the Pegs Creek total, dropping eight wickets on their way to a 103-run total.

Jarvis Hurley was the most promising batter for the Taverners, managing 27 runs off 37 balls, while Jake Trewin made 26 off 21.

Pegs Creek’s Ryan Doyle and Matthew Smith each took two wickets for just 10 runs, proving why Pegs Creek are the favourites in the tournament.

On Friday night at Windy Ridge oval, Nickol Hawks proved too strong for Dampier Taverners, surpassing their 131 target with an over and five wickets to spare, while Pegs Creek 2 fell to the Karratha Kats after the Kats set an impressive 207-run total.

In the final game of the round, Wickham came up against the Baynton Lions.

After winning the toss, Wickham got off to a shaky start with opener Riley Brown falling on his second ball lbw to Jeswin Saji.

But number three Brad Rixom was able to salvage the innings for his team, smashing 68 runs off 54 balls, including six 4s, to see his team reach a 141-run total.

It didn’t take long for the Baynton batters to get going though, with a consistent slog throughout their innings seeing the target surpassed in the penultimate over.
