Oh yes you do want a Pilbara pantomime

Karratha will be hit with a dose of family-friendly, pantomine-style theatre when Pilbara Pan comes to Red Earth Arts Precinct on Saturday, July 21.

The performance has been put together by community-based theatre group Pitter Pat Productions, which was launched in Karratha late last year.

Danielle Chamberlain and Chris Heaton started Pitter Pat to provide an accessible outlet for talented people in the Pilbara to showcase their skills.

The script, written by Heaton, is described as a take on the original Peter Pan story with a “Pilbara twist”.

She said over the five-year period of living in the Pilbara, companies had come and gone, leaving a gap in community-based theatre opportunities for young children.

“There wasn’t much around for young adults and adults,” she said. “We wanted to create not only something sustainable for the community, by the community but accessible for all.

“There is a lot here for children but sometimes it comes at a bit of a cost.”

She said the cast and production team were very excited to bring the show to life after putting in many hours of hard work behind the scenes.

Ms Chamberlain said the enthusiasm of community members had been fantastic, with almost 60 roles filled. “It’s been very well received and we’re very excited to perform on the REAP stage,” she said.
