Nickol woman Charmane Sharp recognised with special award after fostering 84 dogs

A Karratha woman who has fostered more than 80 dogs since 2019 has received a national award. Nickol woman Charmane Sharp was awarded the special foster carer award at the Pet Insurance Australia Companion Animal Rescue Awards. The virtual ceremony was held on November 10. Ms Sharp was recognised for her hard work and compassion in fostering 84 dogs. The awards are a national program that celebrates achievements in rescue, sheltering, rehabilitation and rehoming of companion animals in Australia. Ms Sharp said she began fostering dogs in January 2019 after she saw a Facebook post from SAFE Karratha asking for help. “Absolutely thrilled to be recognised for my work in Fostering with SAFE Karratha,” she said. “We are so blessed to have such an amazing organisation in our community to rescue so many animals in need with the help of City of Karratha and their rangers. I do what I do because I love animals and care about their welfare. “When you see them get adopted and go to loving homes, it’s all worth it. I love receiving updates on their progress as they fit into their new families.” Ms Sharp recently adopted one-year-old Kaylee, who she had been fostering. “We decided we had put a lot of work into her and she still needed more and we didn’t want her to regress backwards,” she said. “I don’t think Kaylee had been shown love from humans.”
