Mum’s the word for award-winners

Two clever and inspirational Pilbara mothers have been crowned winners of an award that recognises the achievements of Aussie mums in business. Playful Families owner Amy Cox from Karratha took first place in the 2020 AusMumpreneur Awards’ making a difference in education and regional business categories; second place in the women will change the world category; and third place in the digital innovation category, while Paraburdoo-based Kader Boot Co owner Kara Lauder placed third place in the fashion category. The winners were announced recently and Ms Cox said it was exciting to have won the awards and receive recognition for her business. “It feels so amazing, to be honest. It was just a wonderful experience,” she said. “You put your heart and soul into these things, and so often it happens around your kids and you don’t often get an opportunity to stop and pat yourself on the back for how far you’ve come. “So that was really lovely.” The awards presentation was held on Zoom this year because of COVID-19 restrictions, which Ms Cox said allowed her to share the moment with her family. “Initially I was disappointed because I didn’t get to actually go to the actual awards but it was actually really lovely because all the kids got to be there in their pyjamas in the background,” she said. “It was so beautiful just to be able to share that moment with them as well, which we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to do, so that was really special for me.” The awards support Australian mums in business and provide opportunities to connect with others and celebrate their success. The winners also receive a share in more than $700,000 of prizes.
