Mongrels snatch 8-7 win in Karratha eight ball summer final
The Mongrels have become back-to-back premiers by successfully defending their 2017 summer competition title.
Last year Mongrels won the grand final against Warriors to take the title 8-7 in a match where they came from 7-4 down.
This season, Warriors finished the season unbeaten and defeated Mongrels 9-6 in the second last game of the regular season to earn a home grand final.
In this final, which was expected to be a close match, Mongrels opened the better team and just kept their noses in front for most of the game.
Mongrels led 5-3 but were later reeled in to 5-all.
Then in the last round they led 7-5 again, only to be reeled in to be level at 7-all.
Just when it looked like Warriors were going to enact their revenge, as they did last year, Mongrels again snatched the last game, and the match, to claim another 8-7 victory.
While Mongrels have acquitted themselves admirably throughout the last three seasons and held a top two position in each season, they have performed at their best in finals, playing in all six grand finals and cementing themselves into the record books in recent times.
Earlier this year they won the winter competition and became the first team to win three winter competition premierships in a row.
These back-to-back summer premierships ensure they are the first team to do the double-double winning of all four premierships, both summer and winter, across the last two years.
