Millars Well Primary students give generously for Christmas

Students from Millars Well Primary School have learnt the importance of money and the gift of giving just in time for Christmas.

Years 1 to 3 students took part in the Money Smart program throughout 2018, which focuses on teaching the value of money through fundraising for charity.

Over the course of the year they raised $1500 which was used at Kmart to buy presents for the Wishing Tree Appeal.

Deputy principal Breigh Pearson said the students had held cake stalls and 5¢ jars to raise funds.

“The kids have been counting and banking the money, plus someone came in from the bank to talk to them about finances and the Salvation Army talked to them about goodwill,” she said.

The experience combined the fundamentals of maths and money with doing something for a cause.

“They got together in small groups to plan how they were going to spend the money, they only had a limited amount, so they had to make a shopping list and plan carefully,” Ms Pearson said.
