Man arrested after Karratha suitcase drug find
The alleged discovery of more than 1kg of cannabis in a suitcase has led to the arrest of a man in Karratha today.
West Pilbara Detectives arrested a 47-year-old man at about 8:30am this morning (24/5) during a vehicle stop on Bayley Avenue, near Karratha Airport, based on information received from the public.
Officers then allegedly found a suitcase containing more than one kilogram of cannabis during a subsequent search of a Karratha accommodation site.
The man, from South Carnarvon, has since been charged with possession of cannabis with intent to sell or supply.
West Pilbara Detectives Sergeant Adam Foster said the find represented a significant amount of cannabis for the area.
“It would have been a lot of deals in our community, so it’s quite significant for us in terms of getting it off the streets,” he said of the find.
The man appeared before Karratha Magistrate’s Court today and was remanded in custody until June 12.
