The western side of Karratha is a step closer to getting its own shopping centre after LandCorp confirmed two foundation lots have been sold to a WA developer.

Cooksey Property Group has purchased 1.76 hectares of land in Nickol earmarked for the centre, which when complete will include an IGA supermarket, pharmacy, medical centre, fuel, fast food and other retail businesses.

According to LandCorp, the purchase will also kickstart the overarching Tambrey Neighbourhood Centre project, a 10 hectare residential and commercial precinct first mooted in 2010.

LandCorp chief executive Frank Marra said the sale was an exciting step for Karratha.
