A group of Karratha teenagers had a series of workshops with the State’s leading theatre company last week. The 14 students from Dampier, Karratha, Roebourne and Wickham participated in a summer school scholarship program with the Black Swan Theatre Company and the City of Karratha, facilitated by Black Swan’s Charlotte Otton and Andrew Sutherland. The week allowed students to take part in presentations, games, workshops, writing tasks and team exercises which culminated with a show on Friday. Zoe Waterstrom Muller, 13, said she learnt things not commonly shown in theatre. “We’ve learnt a lot about movement and tempo and how we can act in different ways,” she said. Mr Sutherland said the aim of the workshop was to give students tools to devise their own theatre. “For us, it has just been amazing to come and meet young people from the Pilbara region and see what matters to them and see the creativity they bring to every situation,” he said.
