A poignant painting by artist Korrina Bastion has taken out the top prize at this year’s Dampier Art Awards.

The winners were announced last month, with Bastion claiming the prize for her work A Memory in Time.

The stirring piece features a silhouetted father with his son on his shoulders, with clocks carefully painted in the background.

Judge Jayne Rolinson described the work as “thought provoking”.

“Strong composition with the silhouette of the son on his father’s shoulders speaks volumes about relationships,” she said.

“The time clocks in the background show that this moment is brief, the time has passed.”

When announcing the winner, Rolinson said the work evoked a lot of memory and emotion.

“To me it could almost be in that moment in time your son could become an adult and that moment has gone again,” she said.

Other winners included Muriel Muir for her landscape piece Millstream Lily Pond and Talitha Sprigg who took out the portrait category.
