A cherubic toddler from Karratha has been named Australia’s cutest baby and will become the face of clothing company Bonds after she beat tens of thousands of entrants in the highly competitive annual search.

Annika Bregger, 18 months, has been crowned the overall winner of the Bonds Baby Search 2017. She also took out the 7-18 month age category.

The competition, now in its 13th year, searches for the cutest babies aged up to three years old, with a focus on personality as well as picture perfect cuteness.

The search this year attracted a record intake of more than 65,000 entries and almost one million votes

Annika’s proud mum Claire Bregger, who has lived in Karratha for about seven years, said she had entered her daughter and her siblings on a whim after seeing the competition advertised on TV, but never expected her to win.

She said Annika’s natural cuteness had won over the judges.

“The judges told me it was her little blue eyes and curly hair. She’s just a very cute baby,” she said.

“She’s very quiet and has this angelic look about her.”

Annika will fly to Melbourne to star in a Bonds Baby summer campaign commercial and photoshoot and will receive a $600 prize pack.

Ms Bregger said the photo she had submitted to the competition was taken by local photographer Erin Hardy, proving the local community was well and truly behind her.

A Bonds spokeswoman said Annika’s picture had stood out among the record number of entries and her personality had shone through in the very “natural” photo.

Annika was the only WA baby to feature among the 12 category winners.
