Karratha water polo players return to Dampier Archipelago island games after two-year hiatus
After a two-year hiatus, Karratha Water Polo Association made a return to the Dampier Archipelago for their annual H20 Polo at the Islands event.
The weather turned it on for players, families and friends as they took to the turquoise waters of Norbill Bay, Rosemary Island, for their Australia Day celebrations.
Two friendly exhibition matches were played between the men’s and women’s teams while the tides rose and the umpiring became a battle to keep heads above water.
The last time players were able to enjoy beach water polo was 2019 at Malus Island after the previous two years were cancelled due to cyclone Damien in 2020 and high winds in 2021.
The event began in 2017 with just 30 players but has grown over the years and has become a highlight of the water polo calendar.
