As Year 12s across the State sit their final exams, several Karratha seniors were recognised with dux awards for their hard work. Damon Tuthill, 17, was awarded dux of Karratha Senior High School and Shaswat Senger dux of St Luke’s College. Mr Tuthill said a strong support network around him had made the final year of school rewarding. “My reason why was to make my parents proud, to prove the people who were doubting me wrong and to do it for myself as well,” he said. “The last year has been made easier through the support of my teachers and staff who were always there to help me after class whenever I needed.” As for his next step, Mr Tuthill said he planned on either studying cardiology or chemical engineering at university. Mr Senger said he was considering studying medicine after leaving school. “I’ve had to make a lot of sacrifice and missing out on things to get here but it’s been a great honour,” he said. Also from St Luke’s, Blake White was awarded the industry-bound dux. “I feel like my hard work that I’ve put in has paid off,” he said. “Next year, I hope to get an electrical apprenticeship with a big company.” Mr White said he did not expect to win.
