Karratha man charged over child exploitation images
A 69-year-old Karratha man has this week been arrested for possessing more than 240 images of child exploitation material.
West Pilbara detectives allegedly found 243 images on several electronic storage devices they recovered from a search warrant at a Karratha house this month, as part of ongoing inquiries into another matter.
Detective-Sergeant Neil van der Plank said the large quantity of images found was unfortunately not unusual for cases of this type.
“We’ve had investigations where we’ve found thousands of images,” he said.
“The scale and severity vary as there are different categories of child exploitation material and they go through different scales.”
The WA Police technology crime squad assisted with the investigation.
The accused, who is on police bail, has been charged with one count of possessing child exploitation material and is due to appear before Karratha Magistrate’s Court on June 13.
Det-Sgt van der Plank asked anyone with information on possession of child exploitation material to contact police.
