The Raiders Boxing Club hosted its first junior sparring competition last weekend on the back of strong growth among its junior ranks this year.

Raiders coach Shane McDonald said the boxing competition gave the kids something to work towards.

“You can’t just train all the time,” he said.

“This was a chance to reward their hard work and effort.

“All the kids did very well but you can see the difference between the kids who have just started and the ones who have been here a while.”

McDonald said the club would be hosting another sparring competition at the Tambrey soon.

Junior boxing classes are free to participate in and run every Monday and Wednesday evening at the Tambrey Pavilion.
