A slow-starting Kats found their groove in the second half at the weekend, running roughshod over their cross-town rivals by 78 points. Both Falcons and the visitors struggled to score in the first quarter at Bulgarra Oval last Friday with the Kats the only team to get on the scoreboard with two behinds. The arm wrestle continued into the second term with the Falcons controlling the ball early but unable to apply any scoreboard pressure before the Kats pounced, booting three goals to two to hold a one goal lead at the main break. The Kats seized the game in the third quarter, booting 6.2 to extend their advantage to 36 points. It was all Kats in the final term with the visitors booting another six goals to run away with the 79-point victory. The final score was Karratha Kats 15.11 (101) to Falcons 3.5 (23). Nelson White booted four goals for the Kats to bring his tally this year to 27 and was supported by Jedd White and Rhys Owen who each kicked three goals. Clifforg Brough, Rhys Biebrick and Kenton Smiler all booted one goal each for the Falcons. White’s four goals moved him up to second in the goal kicker tally. The victory moves the Kats into second place with four points separating them from Wickham Wolves. Both Falcons and the Kats have a bye this weekend before returning on July 17, when Falcons face the Swans and the Kats try to take down the undefeated Dampier Sharks. In the reserves the Kats made it two from two on Friday night after a six-goal opening term set the game up for the visitors. The Kats booted a further six goals across the rest of the game to overwhelm the home side by 42 points. The final score was Kats 12.11 (83) to Falcons 6.5 (41).
