Karratha futsal team off to nationals
Karratha’s young-gun futsal team will jet over to the east coast next year to take on some of the best teams from across the country.
The North West Heart Futsal Academy is busily going through its drills at the Leisureplex, in the lead-up to the junior nationals in Melbourne from January 5-10.
Head coach Stephanie Oddo said the exposure was a good chance for the players to put their names up in lights.
“Last year, the whole stadium was packed and the kids and parents absolutely loved the atmosphere,” she said. “I am excited for the boys to get over there, see what the city teams have and show their skills. They are going to play on a stage where there could be scouts, which is a great opportunity.”
Midfielder Tate David, 12, is part of the team heading over.
Tate said the team’s growth over the past few years had been amazing.
“I had been playing outdoor soccer for four years and I just wanted a change,” he said.
“The level of skill the players have now is awesome — we have developed so much.
“I think it will be amazing to play against Melbourne teams and some others hopefully.”
Tate said he was hoping the competition would help him follow his dreams, potentially through gaining a scholarship.
