Craft beer fans in Karratha will have greater access to their favourite local brew, with the North West Brewing Company marking a major milestone to can and distribute its own beer. The brewery opened its doors nearly two years ago and last week launched its canning production line. Previously the beer was only available at the brewery or for take-home purchase in growlers. North West Brewing Company owner Dan Scott, pictured, said the brewery was able to begin the canning and distribution process after receiving a $185,000 Regional Economic Development grant in 2019. Mr Scott said a keg produced 130 cans, while a 1000-litre tank would produce 1200 cans. “It gives us the ability to have another source of revenue. A brewery is a capital intensive business and is a high-cost business to run,” he said. “We’ve doubled our capacity over the last couple of months by installing new tanks.” Mr Scott said the cans would help the company grow its branding and awareness in the Pilbara. “Eventually in the future if we get the opportunity we will scale up even more and get the beer throughout Western Australia,” he said. Mr Scott 1000 cans had been ordered for a Karratha and Districts Chamber of Commerce and Industry event and another 3000 for the Karijini Experience.
