Golfers brave heat at Saturday Stableford scorcher
It was a very hot summer day to play golf last Saturday, and players enjoyed an interesting game sponsored by Karratha Country Club.
Stableford is all about trying to have the highest score possible. Rather than counting the total number of strokes taken, as in stroke play, it involves scoring points based on the number of strokes taken at each hole.
This round’s winner, with a score of 21, was Andrew Dyson. He was also awarded the men’s long drive on 3.
Justin Oui finished in second place and Wayne Hanson (20) came third.
Novelty winners included Jenni Peters (long putt on 4) and Amish Dykes (nearest the pin on 8).
Lorrie Bertrend had a good run, scoring best second shot on 2 and laddie’s long drive on 9. Mark Smyth had the best gross on 37 strokes.
On Saturday, there is an Australia Day ambrose competition. The $30 entry fee includes a barbecue.
