WA’s gardening guru Sabrina Hahn will touch down in Karratha on Saturday to bring her knowledge to the town’s growing gardening scene.

Ms Hahn will take part in a question-and-answer event at Handy Hands from 10am to address issues and impart wisdom to Karratha’s resident green-thumbs.

Handy Hands managing director Simon Bowman said gardening was becoming increasingly popular in Karratha as more homeowners moved into town.

“I think a lot of people are getting into vegies and growing their own tomatoes and herbs,” Mr Bowman said.

“There is plenty of stuff which can grow over summer — chilli, watermelon, tomato in the right environment.

“It takes a while for people to get their heads around the seasons because it is the opposite to Perth and the east coast, but once they do, it makes it a lot easier.

“(Ms Hahn’s) knowledge in all aspects of gardening is massive, and she has had quite a lot to do with the northern areas.”

In a video posted to social media, Ms Hahn said soil preparation and issues with palms would be key topics.

“I will be talking about pests and disease issues you have in the Pilbara, particularly golden canes, which seem to be dying,” she said.

“Also how to get the most out of that beautiful red soil even though it is pretty hot in summer

“Bring out your dead and I will try and revive it.”
