Fifty reasons to mark Exmouth’s milestone

Exmouth schoolchildren have been busy building big floats to parade through Exmouth during the town’s 50-year celebrations in September.

Perth artist Paula Hart was in town last week to host float building workshops exploring Exmouth’s world heritage values, defence and development.

Shire of Exmouth chief executive Cameron Woods said the students were using recycled and donated materials to build their floats including crates, plastic lids and bottles, old pieces of piping and bike tubes.

“So much energy and collaboration has gone into this project, it’s fantastic to see it coming together and generating real excitement about the coming 50-year celebrations,” he said.

“This is going to be a fantastic event for Exmouth and one that the whole community will have the opportunity to be involved with.

“Exmouth has packed a lot into the last 50 years and the future is full of opportunity.”

Mr Woods said the float building was one of many community projects under way for the 50 Year celebrations, with the WA Museum also in town gathering information and conducting interviews and workshops for a Memory Room project.
